Windows sessions are times when the server software runs a graphical user interface on a device. This can happen through the TS part of the server software or some other technology.
- License for Client Access (CAL)For each RDP device Any user can use CAL to run Windows sessions on one of your computers from a single device. Anyone with an RDP User CAL can connect to one of your computers and run a Windows session from any device. You can use both RDP device CALs and RDP user CALs with the server software at the same time. This means that the license server can handle both types.
- It is possible to set up either device CALs or user CALs per interface server. You can change the licensing mode to either “Per User” or “Per Device” under “Terminal Services Configuration – Server Settings – Licensing.” In Pro Server mode, you can’t have Windows sessions.
- When you join or mirror with the single terminal session, you don’t need RDP CAL. As the name suggests, the console session is the version of Windows that is run from the main keyboard and display device.
